Songs to Commit Suicide To...

Ozzy Osbourne - Suicide Solution (played backwards)

1.) HAS NO ONE MENTIONED A SILVER MOUNT ZION?!
The entire album of “He has left us alone but sometimes shafts of light grace the corners of our room” is supposed to be depressing (not pretenious… the lead singers dog died and he is mourning her death…) As for one song out of all of them, I would choose between “A movie (never made)” and the one that i think would fit the best would have to be “13 angels stand guard 'round the bed”
2.) “Revolution 9” by the Beatles
3.) And 2 classical pieces (I think that classical is the greatest way to go out…): Handels Water Music Suite, No.2 for orchestra in D major, HWV 349 Lentement and Mozarts Symphony No. 26 in E flat major, K. 184 (K. 161a) III. Allegro
(all from the same CD… because I am a laylistener of classical… sorry if I offend anyone with my lack of intellect on this one!)

Some suicidal oldies:

“Tragedy” by The Fleetwoods*. A poetic song, IMO, from the viewpoint of someone standing on a precipice. People go nuts for this whenever I play it on the radio.

“3 AM” by Bill Anderson. Highly rated by Dylan. Really grim.

“One Dyin’ and a-Buryin’” by Roger Miller. A not-so-funny song from an otherwise funny man.

[sub]*I know Thomas Wayne had the earlier hit version, but I think the Fleetwoods’ is better.[/sub]

Adam’s Song - Blink 182.
Someone who lived through Columbine (sp?) shootings killed himself and had this track on loop.
Every time I hear it I think about opening a garage door and seeing someone dead on a chair.

MSP’s: Suicide is Painless
The Doors: The End
The Verve - The Drugs Don’t Work (fortunately / unfortunately, whichever way you look at it).

Another vote for a song that I can’t believe noone has mentioned: Gilbert O’Sullivan’s Alone Again (Naturally).

In a little while from now
If I’m not feeling any less sour
I promise myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower
And climbing to the top will throw myself off
In an effort to make it clear to whoever
What it’s like when you’re shattered.

I got somethin’ to say!

It’s better to burn out,

Than FADE AWAY!

Now that that is out of the way, I 2nd:

Don’t Try Suicide - Queen

Maybe the song would talk us out of it, hmmm?

While I don’t know that particular song (is it on the same cd as “only a memory”?), their song " Blood and Roses" would get the job done too.

I’d like to nominate " Gravedigger" by Dave Matthews. Although, ironically it’s one of his few songs that doesn’t make me wish I could choose death over listening to it.

While not about death " Make It Last" by Stroke 9 is nice and depressing…

Anyone who saw the movie ‘The Rules of Attraction’ knows that THE perfect song for ending it all is Eric Carmen’s (?) “Without You.”

“I can’t liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive…if living is without you
I can’t giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive…I can’t give anymore…”

I thought you said Eric CarTman, as in the kid from South Park

Now THAT would be awesome!

I think people who haven’t seen the movie might know it too. It’s really old.

Into the West by Annie Lennox. It’s the closing song for The Return of the King. It is both sad and hopeful, the perfect song to ease one’s passing.

I realize it’s an old song…but a graphic suicide scene was VERY effectively set to this tune in ‘The Rules of Attraction.’ A strange movie…but, man…that suicide was one of the most emotional things I’ve seen in any recent film.

Pantera’s Suicide Note (Parts I & II) is about the most definitive suicide song I know of. I’m damn glad I never heard this song 14 years ago when I was going through some really bad problems in my life.

Maybe, by The Ink Spots.

Lush Life

“And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda” by the Pogues.

don’t know if they’re suicide songs, but one week in my voice lesson, I was feeling really despondent and stressed out and the songs on the list for that week were:

Another Suitcase in Another Hall- from Evita
Bridge Over Troubled Waters- Simon & Garfunkel
The Turtledove (10,000 miles)- not sure where it came from, but I first heard it at the beginning of “Fly Away Home”
Where am I going from Sweet Charity

yeah… on a normal day, I’m alright with these… but that day, I was in tears by the end. my poor voice teacher must have thought I’d lost it.

Perhaps Weird Al’s spastic polka version of “Bohemian Rhapsody”?

Last Resort by Papa Roach.
