Warren Zevon:
“Carmelita”
*I hear Mariachi static on my radio
And the tubes they glow in the dark
And I’m there with her in Ensenada
And I’m here in Echo Park
Well, I pawned my Smith Corona
And I went to meet my man
He hangs out down on Alvarado Street
By the Pioneer chicken stand*
“Desperados Under The Eaves” Look away down Gower Avenue, look away
Damn! Thought sure I would make it to the end of the thread without anyone mentioning this so I could be first.
This song missed the Top 40 (made it to #56) but did get regional AM radio play. It was big in my hometown because the second-most prominent north/south street is Glenwood Avenue.
