Songs With Good Drums

Might not suit the purists, but I love Reni’s work on this track.

I Am The Resurrection

The drums on Faith No More’s cover of “War Pigs” are a big reason why I consider it better than the original version.

I was trying to figure out which Mike Joyce drum part to nominate. I tend to forget him in these drummer threads, but he’s definitely up there.

Another legendary drum part I forgot about is the shuffle in Toto’s “Rosanna.” (And here’s a clip of Porcaro explaining the beat.)

As “In The Air Tonight” has been mentioned, I’ll go with “I Know There’s Something Going On” featuring Phil Collins on drums.

You might try “I want Candy” by Bow Wow Wow.

I came in to mention him, but on Masters of Reality’s “She Got Me (When She Got Her Dress On)”. The whole CD is drumaliscious actually.

New Pornographers --> “The Bleeding Heart Show”

It’s the song adapted by those University of Phoenix commercials (“Hey-la, Hey-la”).

Mastodon - Seabeast
Metallica- For Whom the Bell Tolls
Iron Maiden - The Duallists

I was going to name that.

Looking forward to a report back, regardless of how it ends up!

The Power Station - Some Like It Hot
Rush - YYZ
David Bowie - A Small Plot of Land

Pearl Jam - In My Tree

“Skateaway,” by Dire Straits, Pick Withers. Awesome. He quit after that, to spend more time with his family and to play jazz. Too bad, his jazz drumming seems merely straight & standard.

Sing, Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman & His Orchestra. Featured Gene Krupa on drums.

I’ve got to agree with this as well - not just the song, but all four records he played on. His playing on the first Dire Straits record is every bit as excellent and distinctive as Mark Knopfler’s guitar.

I infinitely prefer his work on “Sunrise on the Sufferbus” to anything he did with Cream. I know that’s heretical, but I don’t care.

Absolutely fantastic. Great call.

I’ve listened to this song a few times over the past couple of days and I’m curious, as a non-drummer, what does make this such a good example?

I just stumbled on this this morning. Sheik of Araby stands out for the sheer enjoyment in Gene Krupa’s playing.

I could easily cross post the Teddy Wilson Chord jabs at the end of the descending run at about thirty five seconds in in the favorite chords thread.
