That would be Tom T. Hall.
Pink Martini’s album Splendor In The Grass features two back-to-back songs about the same fizzling relationship.
In the tango number And Then You’re Gone, Maria (China Forbes) gives Lorenzo his walking papers. He’s apparently a real smoothie and a great dancer with something of a romantic touch, but has the rather disconcerting habit of disappearing abruptly – only to show up days later without the least notion that he’s done anything amiss. Maria’s fed up, and tells him in no uncertain terms, “Now just begone!”
The next song, But Now I’m Back is a jumpy old school jazz number featuring Ari Shapiro (yes, *that *Ari Shapiro…and he’s amazing!) as Lorenzo. Nonplussed at having Maria’s door slammed in his face, he professes his undying [DEL]cluelessness[/DEL], er, love. Then tries to bum some money.
