Songs with sports-related titles

It can be songs that are specifically about a sport (“Centerfield”). It can be songs using a specific sport as a metaphor (“Backfield in Motion”). Or it can even be far more general (“It’s All in the Game”).

Go!

That would include every song ever recorded.

They all have multiple tracks.

Cricket” (by the Kinks)

“Stars of Track and Field” and “Piazza, New York Catcher” by Belle and Sebastian

“Nitro Burnin Funny Cars” by The Dead Milkmen (is that a sport?)

So we’re talking only about titles, right? So Glory Days by Springsteen would be out.

I submit One on One by Hall and Oates.

Correct, I’m talking about titles specifically (regardless of whether the song’s lyrics reference sports or not).

“Basketball” by Kurtis Blow. It happens to be about the sport of basketball.

Dennis Eckersley (having been much in the sportsball talk news lately)

Howzat

Bradman

Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song) by Warren Zevon.

“The Odd Boy (Sport)” by the Bonzo Dog Band
“Van Lingle Mungo” by David Frishberg

Is Paradise by the Dashboard Light a pun (pair o’ dice)?

“Basketball Jones” by Cheech and Chong

Hee!:stuck_out_tongue: This was actually the second song I thought of (Centerfield was the first) but I wasn’t sure it qualifies as an actual song. All I can remember is

" Basset ball Jones "
I got a basset ball Jones
I got a basset ball Jones oh baby ooo oooo oooooo"

And yes, as a kid I heard it as "basset"ball, though of course I knew what he meant.

Hey, the song had George Harrison, Billy Preston, Nicky Hopkins, Carole King, and Billy Preston as backing musicians. And it was covered by Barry White. You can’t get more actual songlike than that.

Shootin Hoops by G Love & Special Sauce.

Bobby Bare Dropkick Me Jesus (Through the Goalposts of Life)
