Songs you now, and forever will, associate with a movie

Thank you! I came in here to say that exact thing.
Also, I don’t care who Carly Simon really wrote “You’re So Vain” about, it’s really for Richard Nixon leaving the presidency (a la Dick).

She’s Like the Wind!! that’s it!! god, I know it was wind, or breath, or something breezy…

and yeah, Hungry Eyes too. that was the one I couldn’t remember.

ugh. I had happily forgotten all about The Time of My Life until right this moment. I have to go wash my brain. x(

Try a Little Tenderness from Bull Durham.

And ditto on Stuck in the Middle with You = Reservoir Dogs

*Oh Yeah * by Yello was in the movie “Secret of My Success”, a brilliant little 80s piece of fluff with Michael J. Fox.

Minuet #4 in G by Christian Petzold AKA The Duel in another piece of 80s fluff “Electric Dreams”. It’s been attributed to Bach (but apparently incorrectly).

Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is inextricably tied to “Clockwork Orange”.

Ooh, I just saw a clip last night from this movie.

"Everybody’s Talkin’ " from Midnight Cowboy

James Brown - “I Feel Good” - every movie trailer ever made.

For that matter, “Try a Little Tenderness” from Pretty in Pink

“Unchained Melody” and Ghost have already been mentioned, but I have to tell this story of Pepper Mill’s:
One day she’s working at the front desk of the dentist’s office and a little girl waiting there hears “Unchained Melofy” on the music system. Pepper asks her if she likes it, and tells her it’s called “Unchained Melody.”
Little Girl: That’s not "Unchained Melody. That’s the music from Ghost!

(Pause as she reflects on this).

LG: It was sad when Sam died. It was sad when he died again.

The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore rendition from Truly Madly Deeply (Jamie baby)

Elton John’s *Tiny Dancer * from Almost Famous
Sniff ‘n the Tears’ Driver’s Seat from Boogie Nights

Whoops – forgot Rick Springfield’s Jessie’s Girl, also from Boogie Nights. I can’t help but imagine the sound of firecrackers going off whenever I hear it on the radio.

Three Dog Night “Mama Told Me Not to Come” from Boogie Nights
Isley Brothers (I think) "Shout " from Animal House

And who can deny me this one:
The William Tell Oveture” from the original Bad News Bears

And “Try a Little Tenderness” from Shrek. That song gets around.

(Pretty in Pink is my favorite use of it, though. I do love Duckie.)

Shrek for me is AllStar

Second that.

Oh God, let me forget! It wasn’t my favorite song before I saw the movie, now I’d chew my own leg off to get away from it.

JRB

The Marseillaise is what I remember most distinctly from Casablanca.

And ever since I first saw Full Metal Jacket, the Mickey Mouse Club theme song totally gives me the creeps.

I think some of you are just picking a memorable song from a movie. What I meant was, you’re listening to the radio, and a song comes on and suddenly all you can think of is a scene from some movie - that you can no longer hear that song without thinking of that scene (like Excalibre’s second example)

really?? I thought it gave that song a whole 'nother dimension. I never thought the regular one was all that great, but I can’t hear the regular one now without thinking of those creepy things and that weird stilted way they sung it, and I like it better. Creepy is better than sticky sweet, if you ask me-- less boring, at the very least.

Little Green Bag = Resevoir Dogs

Wasn’t Oh Yeah also in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?
Don’t forget that Disney has a way of having a signature song for each movie as well: Can You Feel the Love Tonight, A Whole New World, Colors of the Wind, Kiss The Girl, etc.
