Sony CD Extreme

Frustrated user problem:

I have a Sony CD-RW drive, which I bought about two years ago, and it came with a software called CD Extreme. On Monday, I put in a new hard drive, and I had to reinstall all my old software, but I couldn’t find the install disc for CD Extreme, and my drive is kind of useless without it. Sony won’t send me a new disc, becuase my drive is past warranty (plus, I’m pretty sure they’d rather just have me buy a new drive  ).

Does anyone have a suggestion for where else I might be able to get this program?

There is a very good chance that any CR-RW software would work for you. If you have winXP, there is some basic CD-RW software built in.

Yeah, likely any of the big ones like Nero will work. I think Nero has a free demo version, give it a shot. www.nero.com

That’s correct guys. It’s most unlikely that the hardware itself (the actual CD-RW drive that is) won’t function with modern audio software programs.

Possibly, there might be some software drivers required for the drive to work - possibly.

What model is it by the way? I’m sure we’d be happy to second guess for you.

Also, another fine software program now for making wicked audio CD’s - indeed it’s capable of really the hole “glass mastering” standard actually - is CD Architect 5.0 by Sonic Foundry. In many respects, it might even be overkill seeing as how it really is aimed at the “professional studio” end of the market.

The various muso newsgroups I visit certainly give “Nero” big raps.
