Sony digicam can't use Memory Stick cards larger than 128mg. Can I format this 256mg card to 128?

I have Sony Cybershot DSC-9I’m playing with, it uses the older long Memory Stick cards and it apparently it throws up all over Sony Memory Stick Pro cards larger than 128 megs. I have a 256 meg memory stick Pro card. Is there a utility I can use to force it to be formatted as 128 megs and be used by the camera? The formatting utility in XP Windows explorer won’t budge from the memory capacity it reads off the card. Sony’s memory stick formatting utility off their website is the same way.

I checked eBay and apparently this is known issue as 128 meg Magic Stick Pro cards go for $30 - $40!

MY guess is that your camera will need a firmware update to be able to use larger memory sticks. Have you searched for one?

Yes - There are (I can find) none listed for this unit.

XP should have a partition utility, in control panel/administrative tools/computer management/ and then disk management

Find the mem stick and partition it to 128/128 and see if the camera sees the first 128 megs

Declan

Tried but no go, XP disk managment utility will not divide memory card into partitions.
