Sony Vaio Computers

I need a new computer. I looked at the Sony Vaio line and liked them. I’m thinking about getting the RX580 on this page. I like the idea of having a DVD-RW. Are the Vaios any good?

I have one of their first generation laptops. Have never had a problem with it, but there was something about the processor that made it actually run slower than it should. (I’m not a puter geek so I don’t know the tech terms). They were supposedly working on fixing that problem. It also came loaded with so much stuff that I’m still trying to figure out how to get rid of some weird things on it, but I would recommend them. Very well made and has been extremely reliable. A friend of mine bought a desktop model two years ago and has never had a bad thing to say about it.

I like my VAIO.
I bought it almost exactly one year ago, and it has worked well for me. A man I know who knows computers much better than me has suggested that they are unreliable, but I don’t have enough experience to be able to tell if he’s right. It’s my first computer ever, and I simply don’t have enough experience to be able to form a comparative opinion. So far it has done everything I’ve ever asked it to do. Occasionally it will freeze up, but seemingly, so does everyone else’s computer, so I never specifically attributed that to the manufacturer.

Well, like all computer manufacturers, Sony likes to load up their computers with the “Sony-brand” of software. But since I consider Sony hardware and software to be rather reliable - compared to most - this ain’t that bad.

I just think Sony’s CRT monitors are ugly.

My friend got a slightly older one. It was small! the keyboard too small for me & everytime we wanted to use something else we had to plug in a special port interface on the back & then we would have all this stuff laying on the desk. But you should of course try one out first. As the person said above you want to look at the screen first in your type of lighting situation…

Thanks for the opinions. I have a bunch of other Sony stuff (Mavica camera, big-screen TV, Playstation, phone) and I like their stuff. Now to pick out a monitor…
