Recently I was talking to a workmate about a TV program I had seen. This guy had started a business that was simplicity itself. He rented a huge warehouse and people dropped off the kind of stuff you sell at garage sales, well the bigger stuff. The vendor suggests a price and shoppers come in and make offers for stuff. If the shopper offers enough the shop owner lets them buy the goods and pays the vendor most of the proceeds, pocketing a fee for himself.
Pretty clever, the shopowner doesn’t buy stock and is never out more than rent and his time. He is just providing a showroom for other people.
In the course of explaining this to Greg, it suddenly dawned on me…in this modern computer age you could easily do away with the warehouse. Just provide pictures of the goods on the internet.
“Wow, what a great idea no overheads except the website, I’ll be rich,” I said.
Without looking up Greg said, “Don’t let on to ebay.”
I’ll figure out what he meant later.
Ebay lets you sell anything online so lots of people make money that way. You can even buy books on ebay about how to make money with ebay
Whooosh.
Now if you only had a way to take a picture and put it on a website…
Here in town there is a business where you take your stuff, they sell it on eBay, and you show up to collect your cut. They’re supposedly good at getting stuff to sell at high prices, but I have no idea how successful they actually are.
I guess you had to be there. After Greg’s comment I started thinking about how enthusiastic I was becoming while I raved on…I thought it was pretty funny.
Get yourself a good lawyer.
i heard two people talking an interesting conversation about the internal combustion engine…then i though…bah these guys were morons…itll never work and be packaged to sell to the public
<hijack>Ebay selling by proxy is probably worth it. A high rating will generally add 10-15% to the selling price of an item, especially an expensive one, because people trust the rating that much more. When I had some decently expensive stuff to sell on ebay, I gave it to a friend with a higher rating to sell.</hijack>
