LOL ISWYDT
So it looks like Hollywood has discovered the “Monster Fucker Romantasy” genre. God help us all.
No, Wicker is definitely more in the sexbot-fucking category than monster-fucking, even if the sexbot is fairytale low-tech. Hollywood had already discovered that genre with Ex Machina and doubtless long before.
Although Wicker is, as I noted, maybe the first notable male sexbot in film. (Pace @MrDibble’s valid observation that at least in the short story the character ends up being more than a sexbot, but that’s definitely the context of its creation.)
That ship sailed in, at the very least, 2017 with The Shape of Water.
Oh, good catch. And of course if you count Dracula as a monster… although I’m not sure whether Monster-Fucking Romantasy as a genre is presuming consent/agency on the part of the female human monsterfucker, as opposed to being seduced/raped by an evil predator, which is more Dracula’s MO.
Even if we require female agency and consent, though, there’s arguably already been some of that in film in Galaxy Quest, not to mention Earth Girls Are Easy and Starman, depending on whether a humanoid disguise for the monster/alien is considered disqualifying. (And whether e-t aliens count as monsters in the first place.)
Can’t argue with that.
You say that as if it’s a bad thing.
So, in the end, the townfolk’s jealousy overcomes them, and they burn poor Woody Wood Pecker to ashes.
And at the end, we see a small sprout growing from the ashes, and it… HAS A TINY FACE! [scream!]
