I can’t remember, and Google hasn’t easily given up the answers to, why Trump chose Bolton for NSA. IIRC, even Republicans can’t stand him, and he’s is direct opposition of Trump’s stated foreign policy goals. I recall Trump being hesitant to appoint him because of his mustache, but don’t remember who was pushing for him. Can anybody fill me in?
Bolton was a regular guest on Fox News, which Trump consumes with breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The Random Decision Generator in the White House is pretty well guess-proof. There is no rhyme or reason for anything else he does, why should this be any different?
Fair enough, but it seems someone was pushing for it, because you hear of Trump’s pushback because of Bolton’s mustache.
My guesses are in no particular order and perhaps a combo of all:
1- Bolton said something on Fox that reinforced Donald’s prejudices
2- He knows liberals detest Bolton
3- Other hardliners in the administration wanted Bolton either to push a hard line or to make them seem reasonable in contrast to Bolton.
4- That’s what the Random Decision Generator came up with.
Don’t forget:
- Bolton’s unhinged hawkishness appeals to Trump for superficial macho reasons, so he was hired, without much thought into what that hawkishness might actually mean or result in.
I think the simple answer is that it was because Donny liked what he saw of him on FOX and Donny couldn’t care less about the actual qualifications that anybody has for a job he (or she) is to be appointed to (why should he? After all, Angry Lid’l’ Donny’s certainly not qualified to be in the position he’s in).
