Sould we adopt my system of government for America?

Well there’s always option 3.

Become machine life and lurch across the barren waste land of the earth. MWHUAAAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!

HC,
I’ll take an educated guess and say that you don’t have any children of your own because any parent here would like to see their sons and daughters succeed in life rather than submit to something menial that you’re describing. As much as it pains me to say this, you probably don’t have many relationships outside of your computer either.

As you have failed again to address the forced impregnation issue and written it off (along with many, many other serious flaws in your ideal government) as just us not seeing the forest for the trees, I think you suffering from serious irrationality. Man takes steps about 2.5 feet per stride, yet you require miles in one step. That divides the sane from the insane.

Get out, take a walk, meet somebody and make a friend.

In an attempt to be serious for a moment, the proposal fails in the most critical aspect. You don’t know what I need or want.

Like all authoritarian wet dreams, you long for an organized, focused, productive society free of the inherent messiness people bring to such endeavors. The chaotic, free-for-all, that is the result of millions of autonomous individuals interacting, dismays you.

The fact is, there is order within the chaos, there is value in the messiness of interpersonal relationships, and there is no conceivable way that you know my dreams better than I do.

Grey: Ah, but Hydro’s system doesn’t CARE what you need or want. It expects you to sublimate all desires and needs in the name of the “common good.” It knows that it can’t possibly know your dreams better than you. It just doesn’t give a damn.

Oh god…Can’t resist…pull of troll too strong

All right, one last time.

First, as Xtisme has pointed out, absolutely no one on this board thinks this is a good idea. In fact there has been a universal outcry of horror and outrage at this insane plan. And this is the SDMB, where there could be an argument over how to boil water! I realize majority opinion is a poor guide to truth, but when there’s this much unanimity among a group normally so contentious, it should at least get you to re-think your ideas.

second, you have not listed a single reason why anyone should want to live in your society. You seem to have a baffling definition of the word “freedom.” for the last time it means the abscence of constraints, and the ability to make choices. No one would be free in your slave state. And people need freedom almost as much as they need food or water. People have fought and died rather than be enslaved.

third, you completely misunderstand human nature. Our desires are not “created by society” as you claim to believe. They arise from the deepest parts of our nature; our souls, or our biological make-up, however you want to put it. They cannot be conditioned away, even if you would want to do such a horrible thing.

fourth, you have not shown any reason to establish your society.
Again and for the last time: Yes there are problems with America and with the world. Serious problems. We can debate about what they are and how to solve them. But to suggest that our problems require conversion into a borg hive is just…nuts. Again: The most wretched person in America, a homeless mother addicted to crack and wracked with AIDS, is better off than anyone in your system. I cannot see how you can fail to get this. Unless you are insane or trolling or joking I can only suspect that you are an ant endowed with sentience and the ability to use a computer. I cannot see how a human being could be so profoundly and utterly mistaken about what it means to be human. Those starving babies that you pretend to care about would be better off killed by their mothers than grow up in your nightmare hellscape.

And that is my absolute last post to this absurd thread.

I don’t see why this is an issue. Women will be taught from the time they are born that it is part of their duty to give birth to babies, how is this different from today?

I would like there to be more time for people of my society to do whatever they wanted, but in the end this will destroy our society. If the people are allowed too many choices they will destroy their own freedom.

I think everyone is over estimating what you refer to as the need for “freedom”. People have shown time and time again that they are willing to give up some “freedom” for a better life. So why shouldn’t they be willing to give all their (false) “freedoms” for a society where everyone is equal.

What? I can’t believe anyone who pretends to care about people would rather have babies killed than live in society dedicated to equality for all.

Batteries included?

Hydro, I still cannot believe that you are not being wilfully perverse, but on the off chance that this is not the case I will post in earnest.

I, like you, look at the world and wish that every one of its residents attained all of the human rights outlined in the UN declaration of human rights, starting with basic needs such as food, water, basic healthcare and universal education.

I believe this is genuinely possible through investing in Third World infrastructure via an increase in income tax in the industrialised world. Mandatory 16 hour working days are not necessary.

Do you not see the supernoval, blindingly obvious fact that your dystopia violates at least ten of these human rights?. Read the third paragraph of the preamble and articles 2-5, 12, 13, 16-18, 23, 24 and 27 and tell me you are not arbitrarily disposing of these articles solely in favour of article 25. Christ, you are even disposing of article 25b in favour of 25a!

I put it to you that anyone, including yourself, would sooner live in a world where all articles other than 25 is granted than one where only 25 is granted.

Fuck equality. I’d rather some were on top and some were on the bottom than everyone be on the bottom.

Don’t people understand that “equality” means “equality in the eyes of the law?

All the minutae aside, let’s get back to the OP:

No.

“Equality” of this sort is identical to the “equality” of the grave. Your “ideal” society is worse than the complete extermination of all life on earth. You propose and advocate a monumentally evil thing.

Shall I take it then that only HYDRO is in favour of his form of >Ahem< Utopian Society

It’s interesting that I can’t think of a single literary or philosophical Utopia that doesn’t require its inhabitants to be brain-dead, divinely awed, drugged or completely lacking in human intelligence and nature to work.

That was sort of the entire point of Brave New World

I would like to join the other conservatives, neoconservatives, liberals, libertarians, independants, communists, athiests, theists, parents groups, NRA members, ACLU members, facists, anarchists and PETA members in condemning this terribly stupid idea.

Debaser: Have we heard from the People for the Liberation of Palestine yet?

Oops, I helped keep this thread alive.

Die, Thread, DIE!!!

Damn it John!! Ok, so this is ABSOLUTELY my last post…version 2.

I’m sure we haven’t heard from the Flat Earth Society yet…maybe they will weigh in on the side of the OP.

As a public service announcement, PLEASE don’t feed the…er bears in public parks. Or any other cyber wild life. (trying to skip around getting blasted by the mods).

Reguard, salutations, and farewells,
XT
