Soundproofing an Apartment

Anyone happen to be familiar with any smart solutions I could have installed in my apartment (my landlord is generally very flexible & I think they would let me do more or less whatever I need to)?. Ideally I’d like to be able to pump some serious sound in my bedroom without buggin the neighbors, as it stands I basically cannot use any bass on my system as it reverberates all over the place…i’m definately willing to put a significant investment into this if there’s a product/material/solution that would really let me listen to music loudly in my apt.

cheers.

It is difficult enough to keep obnoxious sound out of a room by attempting to soundproof it. Very expensive and not totally effective.

To keep in the obnoxious (to neighbors) bass reverbs etc. it is virtually impossible.

Suggest some expensive hi-fi head phones. This is a poor substitute for the real feeling of high power sound. Pay no attention to those who predict you will have serious loss of hearing, even if the know what they are saying.

Real solution: Move to the middle of the Mohave and “LET 'ER RIP.”

hehe actually when I move this is prolly going to be a major consideration. Doesn’t leave me many options though, basically no apartment buildings, probably no condos, & no semi-detached houses…arghh!

Followup Qs: What is the highest wattage I should need out of speakers for an 700 sqr foot apt? Are there any little tricks to dampen or lessen the soundbleed? ie does elevating the speakers work? How about dovets over the walls? Egg Cartons?

The ultimate way to soundproof your bedroom would be to create a room within a room - essentially create a floating room where floor, walls, and ceiling are isolated. That’s a bit much, though.

There are a bunch of companies that make soundproofing products and some of them have tutorials about soundproofing so you don’t ruin your sound by sucking out particular frequencies.
