What are some good sources to promote LGBT inclusivity in grade school kids? I’m thinking books, maybe movies, maybe web sites. The problem is that there are some decidedly homophobic influences out there that specifically target children, sometimes from religious groups, sometimes from conservative old family members, or from wherever else. It is always a good thing to teach children well, but having different people in the children’s lives in effect arguing back and forth in their teachings isn’t perfect. But, reputable outside influences that appeal to growing minds that are reaching out and exploring can help fix this. What do you recommend?
Not sure what Lukeinva’s confusion is.
As to the OP:
Here’s a selection of books from Amazon.
“And Tango makes three” was the most challenged library book from 2006 to 2010, so they must be doing something right.
I think what you want to do is great, but be careful. I know a teacher who was fired for attempting to do the same with high school kids (granted, he didn’t go about it in the best way. But still.)
Woops… I first read that as exclusivity. My bad.
You may want to contact PFLAG (formerly Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays). If Anyone has the kind of resources you’re looking for, they will.
I second PFLAG. What little I have in the way of donations, I sometimes give to them for all the good work they do in this area. Excellent organization.
