Here you go. Although that’s not as amusing as seeing them in action.
Thank you! Although you’re right that you kind of have to see it, at least this lets you know who to look for!
Has anyone managed to make a complete list of all the imaginary characters tha tmade cameos?
Yeah, I did catch Quick Draw when I rewatched it. Those episodes were meant for replaying on the DVR. It’s still too bad he wasn’t swinging in with his guitar, though.
Check Wikipedia for a list of the imaginary characters.
I liked Wario with the combat shotgun in the intro.
The Cavity Drillers were a nice blast from the past.
I had to add Franken Berry to the list. I saw him in the scrum.
I’ve got to say I didn’t like these episodes. It reminds me of one of the points in the Cartoon Wars episodes they had a year or two ago: pop culture references in and of themselves are not clever or funny. In fact, that type of non-humor “humor” has been beaten into the ground so deeply in the past few years that any pretense of cleverness that it might have had is long gone. There were enough jokes spread across three episodes for one okay episode and a hell of a lot of “Hey look at that! It’s a popular character from the 1980’s! Isn’t that clever!”
“No, Jesus is real. Buddha is imaginary.”
“Hey, you’re being intolerant!”
“Am I real?!”
Gotta luv that South Park philosophy!
The medal around his neck was his Nobel, I think.
I’ll be more than happy to replay this trilogy for my TiVo-less friend in a few days. Classic, classic stuff.
“Aw, shit” at the end about made me pee myself.
The facial expression Kyle had when he popped back up, only to go back down, was priceless.
I wondered how they would end that ball sucking subplot and I was disappointed when I thought it would end with Kyle’s shoving Cartman.
The play by play with Cartman was good, but the color commentary by Santa was even better. And there was something filthy about a Care Bear standing nearby.
Another thing that cracked me up for some reason was how both Cartman and Kyle busted through the window to break into the Pentagon.
A few more items:
-
Popeye getting gang raped and peed on was a riot. I watched it like 5 times.
-
Did anyone else think Butters was going to picture the Stay Puffed Marshmellow Man?
-
No Kenny the entire trilogy?
-
Snarf being fitted with a helmet like the kid from the Two Towers.
-
"Kyle. You are gobbling my balls!
I don’t know, the whole ball-sucking subplot was entirely “meh…” to me, too lowbrow, but then again, this IS South Park we’re talking about here, they’re not exactly the bastions of high-culture
“Why is it so easy for children to break into the Pentagon?!”
Wouldn’t Mr. Sta-Puft be on the side of the “Evil” characters though?
too bad we didn’t see that annoying lizard/cat thing get attacked by the Woodland Critters though, I’ve always hated Snarf
This Mr. Stay Puft’s okay, he’s a sailor, he’s in Imaginationland, we get this guy laid we won’t have any trouble.
“Emmy-award-winning series”
I totally missed that; I think I was watching the Smurf in the background, dragging a giant (well, normal-sized) sword.
I thought he made the original trip to Imaginationland in the first epsiode. In fact, when the fighting started in that ep, I was expecting him to get killed.
But that’s not where most of the humor was from. They weren’t making a big joke about Optimus Prime being there, or whatnot, those were just bonuses. The main jokes were from the absurd situation, Butters (again) being in over his head and not knowing what he is doing, and (of course) Cartman trying to get Kyle to suck his balls.
As an example, FG would do this style of plotline is this fashion:
Peter: Look, it’s Optimus Prime!
[cut to shot of OP]
Lois: Yeah, and the Alien from Alien!
[cut to shot of Alien]
Meg: And some Stormtroopers!
[cut to shot of Stormtroopers]
Etc…
What was Butter’s floating around in the glowing sphere a riff on? It was familiar, but I can’t place it.
Dude, he said “high-culture”!
