South Park: Is Saddam Canadian?

Saddam Hussein has a flapping head full of lies, just like the Canadians, and if I remember correctly, his first appearance was in the April Fools’ Day episode featuring Terrence & Phillip.

Is he supposed to be Canadian himself, or is it just a coincidence?

What’s the coincidence? They don’t portray Canadians as “full of lies” with any amount of regularity, certainly not to the degree that they do with Hussein. Sometimes they’re shown as backward, simple folk, but full of lies? I don’t think so.

I’m a Canadian and I’m always full of lies.
I’m not Saddam Hussein.
Nor am I Cecil Adams.

Is Cameron Diaz Canadian? Her mouth goes all the way around her head, too.

So hold on. If your always full of lies, doesn’t that mean you are both Saddam Hussein AND Cecil Adams? Cecil IS Saddam Hussein! No wonder they can’t find the WMDs!

But wait…does this mean you aren’t Canadian? I can’t tell. You are so full of lies…but wait…what if you were lying about being a liar?
This kind of crippling indecision is probably what lowered my SAT score.

I haven’t seen many episodes, but I think that the reason they have his head like that is because he’s not drawn, but cut out of a photograph. I know they’ve done the same thing with other celebrities on the series, but I don’t remember if they cut their heads to show them talking, or if they drew an open mouth on them.

Is the split head = Canadian thing common in the show, or was it done for the movie?

It’s common on the show. Ike was born in Canada and has always had the split head.

Yeah, I knew about Ike, and about Terrence & Philip. But I assumed that that was because they were a baby and a cartoon show, respectively.

You know, now that I think about it, is T&P supposed to be a cartoon within a cartoon? Because they go and interact with real people as if it’s not, but Cartman says “the animation’s all crappy.”

Yes, “Terence and Philip” is a cartoon in the South Park world. It is, actually, sort of the “South Park” of South Park, a point made most clearly in the movie.

Don’t ask about the “Behind Terrence and Philip” episode.

T&P are real people that a cartoon was based upon so often people get them confused. At least that’s what was said in Behind Terrence and Philip.

Saddam is not Canadian. He may have the flapping head, but he doesn’t have the beady eyes.

I was referring to the song Blame Canada, from the movie… “With those beady little eyes, and flapping heads so full of lies.”

The only other celebrity photo-face I can remember from the show is David Hasselhoff (when Mr. Garrison had plastic surgery), and I don’t think he had a flapping head.

I thought the flappy head was to indicate he wasn’t from the US in general, not just Canada, but then they had Starving Marvin on, so there goes that theory…Maybe they think he is Canadian. Us Americans and our poor sense of geography, you know.

Well, Saddam did take over Canada for a bit of “Not without my anus”

And everyone knows Terrrance and Phillip animated episodes have names like “In the land of the Goat people”

When Mr. Garrison got a nose job, he had David Hasselhoff’s flapping portrait on him ala Saddam. Assuming that Hasselhoff was born in the U.S, I think it just goes to show that it’s a site gag…

Well, when Saddam first appeared, it was in the Terrance and Phillip special “Not without my Anus”, which was a program within South Park, so one could leap to the conclusion that Saddam was animated that way by the creators of Not Without My Anus. Presumably the South Park staff themselves either couldn’t be bothered changing Saddam when he appeared later, or just liked him the way he was.

David Hasselhoff and Ben Affleck both have had the photo-heads, but neither had a flapping head.

Also, Saddam Hussein is credited as providing his own voice (in the movie at least).
