spam killers

Why is it that AOL says that they cant prevent the “porn bots” from infiltrating the chat room? How hard would it be to pay one or two people to just monitor the rooms and get rid of the accounts that are bots? They are obviouse (i.e. repeating the same message and links to porn sites in thier info). It seems like it would not be too hard. Either that or have a function that you can report a spammer to the SA with just a push of a button. It seems that they want it!

AOL, huh? <sigh>

Because a program can do it faster and more efficiently.

This is called automation. A lot of tasks that are now done by computers used to be perform by humans. It’s the same thing.

Well these “automated” computers are not doing a good job of policing the chat rooms! All the rooms are FILLED with bots…and I mean literally 80% of each room is either a bot that reguarly posts an invitation to see naked pictures at a pay site or have in their info pane a link to a pay porn site. And to think that there are a lot of children that love chatting and are bambarded with these.

AOL makes money off of spam. (Directly or indirectly.) It has never been in their best business interest to stop it at all. In fact, they make sure that each user is exposed to as much spam as possible. Note that they have no effective spam email filters at all and claim that they cannot be done (other ISPs’ filters to the contrary).

If you use AOL, expect to be exposed to a lot of this garbage. Pop-ups, email, spambots, are all “good things” to AOL. It is how their business model works.
