Maybe they’ve gone a bit overboard? Naaahh. I doubt this will even be enforced. Nice to dream, though.

This sounds absolutely lovely. Will it work? I hope, I hope, I hope…
I’m hoping the attorneys in the case against the spammers have their most brilliant days of speech ever. I sincerely hope they win. Spammers are a menace.
Yeah right. Let’s get the politicians involved.
If you don’t like SPAM or your not computer literate enough to control it. GET THE FUCK OFF THE INTERNET before you ruin it.
d_odds places rock back down. “It will be a long time before I pick up another rock,” he says to himself.
Some pop-ups are not controllable. They’ll take on a life of their own unless you spend 15 minutes hitting Alt-F4. And God Help you if you say Yes to ‘Gator’ or any of those other Virus programs.
Public Execution is too good for them. Let’s make sure we take the price of the bullets out of their estate as well…
I use PopUpCop to prevent pop-ups. Works well for me.
care to explain that?
The guvmint will save us from spam?
Bitching about spam is like writing your phone number on a wall in a public restroom and then calling the cops because you’re getting obscene phonecalls. There are literally hundreds of software programs to filter SPAM and they’re FREE.
My SO uses Windows, has a Hotmail address and uses no Spam filter. She gets over 200 emails a day. That’s her choice.
I use Slackware (Linux) and wouldn’t go near Hotmail but use Yahoo instead. I have 0 spam. Don’t even know what one looks like.
The Internet is a public place and also the last true medium for Free Speech. When ANYONE bitches to a government entity about the Internet,I take it as a direct assault on my last real Freedom. Why should I have to give up anything to protect you from yourself.
If that were true, I would agree with you. HOWEVER, spammers get your address even if you do NOTHING (i.e. don’t post your email address on a website, sign up for something, etc.). They get it and then sell it.
I use Yahoo mail and I use filters but still they arrive. Sure, not hundreds but some.
So, if you got hundreds of pieces of junk mail in your real mailbox every day, would you complain or not? Well, your address is in the phone book, right?
Fin_man:
Try these two experiments.
Let these simmer for thirty days and then we can discuss SPAM.
 Thank God your jackass opinions are a minority, shared only by spammers.
Your analogy sucks. Spam is more like opening your door one morning to find 50 strangers attempting to lie their way into your home. Amongst them is a friend you really want to talk to, but you can’t find her.
Once they have got in they proceed to deliver p0rn to your children, attempt to defraud you with illegal get-rich investment opportunities, try to sell you crap printer cartridges from an entirely different continent, or push pirated software on you that you might receive, or you might find your credit card details stolen.
What did you do to deserve this? Your address is listed in the phone book. You fool! Hide yourself! Disguise your address! Arm your house! Never open your door! Repeal all who approach!
Doesn’t sound anything like an idyll of free speech to me. Sounds more like a a place no-one ever trusts or ever speaks to anyone else. Where criminals can approuch anyone they want in safe anonymity. Where those who have them cower behind their spam shields while the rest of the world drowns in it.
Is this your vision for the internet?
I’m very careful about who gets my email address, and I don’t have any spam problems.
It generally works, unless you have AOL
If my eyes rolled any further, I would be looking at my asshole - from the inside.
Hrmph. I get 70-100 spam a day. I figure it’s mostly because I’ve had the same e-mail address for about 8 years. My ISP offers spam filtering, and it has cut it down to about 10-15 a day.
Either way, it takes my time and attention to take care of these unwanted intrusions trying to get me to “Extend your manhood 3 inches” and “get viagra online without a doctor!”
Last I heard, VT was considering an anti-spam bill. Hopefully, that’ll pass, too.
That is not fucking TV you’re looking at. It’s a moniter and attached to that is a computer and it is attached to the internet. That computer has upstream and downstream capabilities. In other words you are responsible for it’s actions. You are the origin of everything that appears on that moniter. If you’re too stupid or lazy to at least grasp the basics SELL IT AND GET YOUR ASS BACK ON THE COUCH.
FUCKING MORON !
Please please PLEASE somebody put this in your sig!! (I don’t use one, or I would)
Well thank you, Bill Nye the Science Guy!
Scarlett, anyone is welcome to use it as a sig as long as they don’t use it against me.
Not to mention-what about when spam is disguised as a friend’s e-mail? For example, it will say, “Hey, how are you?”
I open it up, and get “NAKED TEENAGE MONKEY MUNCHERS!!!” or something like that.
And I don’t NOT open it-because other times, it’s someone from the SDMB, or another board or whatever.
Tough call.
