What is the Spanish term for non-cartoon television? “Televisión de imagen real” is what Google gives, but that seems a bit too long. I’m wanting this for something like a section title.

Is there no shorter term? I figured our Spanish speaking Dopers would be all over this by now. Even if to tell me there is no shorter term.

I know “Telenovelas” are those incredibly popular Spanish-language soap operas, but I would have thought that “Television” or “TV” (or a Hispanified version thereof) would be the descriptor of choice.

“non-cartoon television” could be “televisión sin dibujos animados” (wiki) or “televisión sin animación”(wiki).
“tv en directo” (I hear “en directo” more often in Spain) or “tv en vivo” (more often in the Americas) would be more like “live TV” or “live action TV”.
I did try to think of a one-word lol answer, but everything that I know of on TV can be reduced to a cartoon. http://www.teleprograma.tv/programacion and http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Programa_de_televisión, for example, have examples of live-action programs. I could not find a generic term.
Given the ambiguity of “animación”, “Acción real” (I wonder, is the Spanish royal family selling shares of stock?), etc., who is the target audience for your section title?

“En vivo” or “en directo” has come to mean that it’s not pretaped, it doesn’t mean “real actors”. It’s being transmitted live.
Normally we just call it la tele… “cartoons” need to be specified, not-a-cartoon doesn’t. “TV” is used as an abbreviation in writing but not spoken.
from_a_to_z, that Spanish real has nothing to do with an English royal. It has to do with the English word… well, gee, real!

Thanks muchly Nava. Question: If Juan Carlos owns a share of stock, would you then call it something other than “acción real”? “real acción” perhaps? For example there is “Real Academia Española”, not “Academia Real Española”. Perhaps because putting the adjective in front of the noun puts more stress on the “royalness” of the item? Or if someone can point me to the Spanish-language version of TSD, then I can follow themajestic´s lead and increase my knowledge of a foreign language.
As for the normality of “la tele”, I of course defer to your knowledge of the language. Thanks very much for resolving the issue by the 7th post.
I would still assume that if a 6 year old reader were to watch la tele, then they would more likely watch “Dora la Exploradora” (link) than, say, a round-table discussion of the works of Borges. Or if an adult were to watch, then they could watch los Simpson. At least, in my part of the English-speaking world “the TV” includes cartoons. (Other stuff we can get easily in cyberspace.)
