Spanish withdrawl from Iraq

Have any factions in Iraq made any comment concerning Spain withdrawing troops after the train bombing? I wonder if they have gloated, held them up as an example or said thanks.

Your premise is flawed.

Spain pulled out because of a change in government. The political party that won had always been against the deployment in Iraq and it was their known policy to redraw troops well before the attack in Madrid.

Now it is arguable that the people voted that party in directly because of fear after the attack but I’ve mostly heard from Spaniards that the reason the government of the day lost was because they started playing politics with regard to the attacks i.e. initially blaming ETA for the attacks so as to take pressure of them. There was a major backlash against the sitting government because of that.

It should also be noted that Aznar’s government may have lost the election even without the Madrid bombing as it was quite unpopular because of the troop deployment in Iraq. The Spanish public was against the deployment.

I’m not concerned with Spanish politics, I’m just curious if any Iraqi factions have said anything about it. That’s why it’s in IMHO rather than Great Debates.
Thanks.

Ah, well then I have no answer for you apart from, I haven’t heard of any reaction from Iraq.

Spain has troops?

Yeah, but I don’t think they’ve let them have guns since that Wellington thing.
