It’s absolutely astounding to me that Ryan is being attacked for “not being conservative enough”, considering that he’s the principal architect of the Romney-Ryan Budget which would have been an unmitigated disaster for the middle class and lower income earners and an extraordinary taxpayer handout to the 1%, and has been described as everything from unworkable to outright dishonest. The guy who Romney took on as his running mate to bolster his own conservative credentials and counter the undesirable perception that Romney was moderate and perhaps even sane.
The choice of Speaker and the choice of presidential candidate will tell us a lot about where the Republican Party is headed. Choosing Ryan already seems pretty far to the right, though he may exercise diplomacy and surprise everybody. But if he’s kicked out for being “too moderate” then one can only imagine the kind of nutcase that would replace him, and it really would be the end of the Republican Party as we know it. You can only keep doubling down on crazy up to a point before it all implodes.
No he wasn’t. He was nominated by the Republican caucus, but he won’t be Speaker until a full vote of the House tomorrow - and then only if 18 of the people that voted against him today switch their votes. A reasonable assumption, but not a done deal.
The 43 who voted for Daniel Webster (maybe thinking he was someone else?) are from the loonies. They’re not available, and neither are any from the Sane Caucus (relatively speaking) who voted for Ryan and will again.
Realistically, if Boehner wasn’t going to call up the earlier immigration bill that would have passed, Ryan has no reason to either. He has no tough decisions or actions facing him during what looks to be a caretaker term.
With the budget deal passed, Republicans will be unable to take hostages until Hillary is in office for two months. Republicans will have nothing to do other than have a few dozen votes to repeal Obamacare.
It’s done - there were 9 votes for Daniel Webster from the Ignore Us Caucus, but we can now poke fun at the Speaker’s Eddie Munster hair instead of orange skin (which, I’m told by someone who has met him, is a more normal tan color in person than on camera).
I forgot - and figuring out how to close out Benghate with minimal repercussions.
Just how crazy do you have to be to be “conservative” enough for the Tea Party nowadays?
And why are we calling them “conservative”? They don’t seem to want to conserve or be moderate, they seem like some sort of weird extremist-right-wing-quasi-anarchists. They just seem to hate the idea of government. Do they want to go back to the tribal way of living…?
If I had no compassion for my fellow human beings (and Tea Partiers are testing it sorely…) I’d actually be interested in seeing the result of these kind of people actually RUNNING a country. It would be incredibly interesting (and most likely devastating).
Let’s try Carson for president and then let the Tea Party run both houses. See how much damage they can do in 4 years. Will China have to intervene to save the US from a humanitarian disaster in the end…?
