Speaking of people unable to check their ego

Can the President keep his in check after recent disses from his own party, on the Saudi thing and TPP?

For those that don’t remember, I take us back to Oct. 2014:

So now it’s October again, two years later. Can he keep his mouth shut this time?

Why should he? He’s got better numbers than either candidate.

Thinking of Senate candidates as well who might be tempted to stake out an independent stance. Senate control is very close right now.

Again he’s in positives in terms of popularity and fundraising numbers. Except for maybe Bayh in Indiana any candidate should welcome him.

I’m trying to see any point in the OP and I just don’t see one.

Ego? What?

He’s at 51%, which is not bad, but the law of averages says he’s still really underwater in red states. And even if he’s popular it’s never helpful to basically call other Democrats liars.

These are two real men, adaher. You would do well to learn from them.

(Link is a video of Obama trying to get ClintonB to stop schmoozing on the tarmac 'cause he’s gotta get home for dinner.)

You think he can get impeached or some other way in trouble? He’s a lame duck president. At this point, he can pretty much say anything and be untouchable.

OK, that was funny. Does Air Force One have a horn?

He’s a two term president. He’s been a good if not great one, against every odds starting with his name and skin color. He’s had significant achievements despite eight years of sailing into the headwinds of hurricane Goppy. He’s been a model of behavior and morality, as has his family. Most of all, he’s been pretty much “the president we needed” as a stable rock and calm leader in some damned difficult times. He’s going out on a high note, with the Oval Office desk pretty clear and orderly for the next [del]victim[/del] occupant.

I hope he turns into the kind of irreplaceable elder statesman that Carter, Clinton I and even Forty-One did, and that he’s got a hand and insight into the US’s future for a long time. ETA: Maybe following Taft onto SCOTUS wouldn’t be a bad move.

He wants to stand up, beat his chest, give a modest Tarzan yell or two and clang a little… I’m good with it. He’s earned it.

Opposing the recent legislation about sovereign immunity is equivalent to tweeting about 20 years-ago-Miss Universe’s weight at 5AM. Or something.

He’s totally correct about JASTA…it’s an enormous can of worms that it would be very much better not to even bring the can opener into the same room with. I don’t see ego…I see someone who realizes just how much of a problem the bill can become.

You can’t fool all the people all of the time, but you can fool enough of them all at once to panic Congress into performing the Lemming Stampede.

Mr. Fantastic would call this a stretch.

As near as I can tell your quotes were of a pretty smart guy doing a pretty smart thing when surrounded by character assassins from the other side.

Your point is what?

I think he starts from the premise that Obama has an ego problem, and therefore anything he says proves he has an ego problem.

I still have no clue what those quotes have to do with anyone’s ego.

Actually most big jets do. I’d be surprised if they bothered to remove the factory horn from the prez’s aircraft. The purpose is two-fold.

It beeps repeatedly, like a very loud truck backup alarm if any of the cockpit fire alarms go off on the ground. The intent is to alert any ground crew in the area to come save an unoccupied jet. There are also usually remote fire extinguisher controls near the horn.

The other purpose is to initiate comm between the ground and cockpit. If we’re sitting there a few minutes before departure and the ground crew is loading cargo, running around, doing whatever, & we need to talk, we’ll beep the horn a few times. With luck they’ll hear it and somebody down there will get on the intercom. If not the co-pilot has to go outside, down the jetway ladder, and grab somebody.
