… I get both Deutsche Welle and Pro7 on my Dish Network, and on one of them, about a month ago, I saw a feature about an independent young German director filming a Star Trek movie of his own in the German language.
This feature coincided with the Star Trek Anniversary, and George Takei was in Germany promoting it, and almost signed on to do a cameo on this project.
What stopped him was his manager. I guess there may have been contractual ramifications if he had done Mr. Sulu.
Anyway, what made this so interesting was the fact that the project set designers had built all the sets up to STTNG, and they had also cast some of the parts!
Not sure what the plot was to be but what made it humorous was that the actors chosen to play the major characters all came from different areas in Germany, and so brought their dialects into the film.
Imagine Spock speaking with an American southern accent and you’ll just about “get” the German “Spock” speaking in his Bavarian one!
I’m kinda pulling for this young guy to make his Star Trek movie, and if anyone can provide a link, that would be great, because all I have been able to find was a “homoerotic parody” and I don’t think that’s it.
