Special Guest Star ...

Help me put together trivia questions for an upcoming charity ball.

Tell me some of your most fondly-remembered guest stars from sci-fi/fantasy/horror TV shows, like when John Hodgman was a brain surgeon on Battlestar or the two times Roddy McDowall played the Devil on Fantasy Island.

Go.

Do cameos count, because I really liked JMS turning out the lights on Babylon 5, and Joss Whedon doing the Dance of Shame on Angel.

A few to get started:

Angelique Pettyjohn, Sherry Jackson, Ted Cassidy, Melvin Belli in “Star Trek”
Carroll O’Connor and Ed Asner in “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea”
Vitina Marcus, Al Lewis, and Robby the Robot in “Lost in Space”
*Richard Kiel, Ann Jillian, Oscar Beregi (and too many others to list) in “Twilight Zone”
*Steve Ihnat and Robert Duvall in “The Outer Limits”
Tim Choate and John Schuck from “Babylon 5”

*I guess everyone in an anthology series is a guest star, whether they’re credited as such or not.

Cameos are fine, thanks!

Ron Glass as the Devil in an episode of “The Twlight Zone”, 1980s version.

Teri Garr on *Star Trek *(TOS).

Joan Collins on same.

Penn and Teller on Babylon 5.

Stephen Hawking on Star Trek: TNG.

Ashley Judd on TNG (as Wesley’s love interest).

Richard Hatch on the new BSG (though it eventually became a recurring role).

And speaking of “Star Trek,” Angela Dorian/Victoria Vetri had a split second scene in “Assignment: Earth” that had people wondering for almost 40 years, “Who was that girl?” It had been previously reported that it was Barbara Babcock (despite their not being remotely similar in facial features), but someone finally got to the bottom of it. If you’re not recalling her, here is her scene.

Jonathon Harris on Lost in Space.

Fred Astaire was on an episode of the original Battlestar Galactica. And not just a cameo, he was the main guest of the week, playing a con man who turned out to be Starbuck’s long-lost father.

I’m not sure of specific occurences, because he’s fairly prolific. But I always know it’s going to be a pretty offbeat and special sci-fi or horror show if Ron Howard’s brother Clint Howard is going to be in it.

For Bab 5 cameos, I don’t think you can top Harlan Ellison as the voice of the station’s computer.

David Warner in ST:TNG

Frank Gorshwin on Star Trek.
Buster Crabbe, Henry Silva, Peter Graves in Buck Rogers and the 25th Century.
Kent McCord in Farscape (recurring role as Chriton’s dad)

These are excellent, y’all.

Roddy McDowell as Al’s replacement and the great Dennis Wolfberg as Gushie on Quantum Leap.

Matt Frewer on ST:TNG

Reminded me of one: Dean Stockwell on Enterprise!

More TNG: Mick Fleetwood as an Antedean and James Worthy as a Klingon.

John Tesh was a Klingon, too (when the Enterprise-D crew did a coming-of-age ceremony for Worf on the holodeck, Tesh was one of the holographic Klingons), though I don’t think that qualifies as one of my “favorite” guest stars.

A few more I’ve remembered:

Shuttle astronaut Mae Jemison was an engineering lieutenant on an episode of TNG.

King Abdullah of Jordan had a non-speaking bit on an episode of Voyager (before he was king).
