Special member status for departed members

Was it something I said.

This has given me an idea. I’m going to ask that in my obituary “member of SDMB” be included.

If you meant ‘do you’ get those requests, then the answer, as C K Dexter Haven said, is yes. If you meant ‘do you’ delete the threads, then, just to be clear although you may have gathered this from the rest of his post, the answer is no. Deleting threads and posts around here doesn’t happen too often, and never for frivolous reasons.

  1. In the opinion of the staff, the poster has made a “significant” contribution to the SDMB. The staff might do this on some objective basis like number of posts and length of time registered. This will make it pretty tough for someone to “manufacture” this status. I mean, really, if the best thing someone can do with his or her life is to fake death, let them. This also will dramatically decrease the hassle this would cause the staff. If the allegedly dead poster hasn’t been a member for at least a year and doesn’t have at least 1000 posts (or whatever) the staff wouldn’t have to bother with any of the rest of it.

Well, I have been here almost 2 years, and have only 130 or so posts. I think number of posts and length of time here is too judgemental. I am in no way claiming everything I say to be a significant contribution (my post are usually in MPSIMS), however I remember some posters that only have 10 post been here a year, and said something, I thought was signicant. I just think, this particular way of determing the issue is really subject to a simple matter of opinion.

AAAARRRGGGGHHHHH

We agree wholeheartedly. Quantity is not the same as quality.
