Spectre, can you rethink that thread closure?

First of all, I humble myself before you. I should have posted an explanation beyond my flip remark.

Thing is, I saw Eve had posted, which made me think of Wang-Ka. I did a search for his threads, and that one came up. I was rushing off to work, and I foolishly didn’t think about a mod being the first to reply.

So I humbly submit the post I should have made:

This is talking about this thread, by the way.

Rilchiam, I can understand how the thread might have been (or may still be) interesting to newer members. I know the rules about zombies have been relaxed, but I don’t really think it was a good candidate for revival. Master Wang-Ka hasn’t been active since 2006, and he’s not around to expand or possibly update the thread. And it’s been too long to just pick it up again. Many of the other posters are no longer here, either, although some are still quite active, including yourself. But after such a long time, the flow of the thread is going to be severely interrupted to just pick up as if people were posting in it only yesterday.

I’m sure there would have been no problem if you had started your own thread with this in the OP:

and added a link to the original thread.

I’m not trying to junior mod (if I am, I submit myself to whatever humiliation the mods deem necessary), but I know this is the preferred way to bring back a thread like this.

Okay, I’ll do that, if the mods are okay with it.

I was going to come here and ask that it be unlocked. The solution to start a new thread is alright, though. I am a recent SDMB poster, just now saw that thread, and thought the message was really powerful. But I can understand the anti-zombie rules.

Not my forum, but I think cochrane has given a good explanation of our usual reasoning on zombie threads. When a discussion involves a large number of posters who are no longer active, it’s better to start a new discussion and link to the old one. I wouldn’t see a problem with starting a new thread like that.

Apologies for not responding to this thread earlier; I just noticed it. cochrane is correct; in a case like this it’s best to start a new thread with a link to the old.

If you do start a new thread you can PM me and I’ll put a link in the old thread also.
