I’m curious to know whether Gray Beaver in Jack London’s White Fang might be a member of the Han tribe ( Tr’ondëk Hwëch’ in First Nation) There is nothing I know of in the novel that indicates any specific tribe but he may have based his knowledge of Indians on the Yukon tribes during his time in Dawson city. I haven’t found any information on this.
I’m not tribal, but know a lot of people who are, and my health care provider in New Mexico was First Nation. They told me that it was sort of a generic term since tribal people were the first people to North America. Whether this meant the term in general or them specifically I don’t know. I suspect the former. By the way, it was the best health care I ever had in my life. Almost worth moving back to Albuquerque. Almost.
