Spiderman and Playstation 3 using the same font.

Sure sony pictures is behind the Spiderman movies and obviously the Playstation 3. but why would they use the same font for both ?

spiderman font

playstation 3 font

Shouldn’t this be in MPSIMS? :dubious:

Just kidding. I never would have noticed that.

Maybe it was a terribly expensive font to design and they want to get double their bang?

How that new Sony font coming along Clydesworth?

It’s proving to be quite a challenge sir! We had some real problems with the serifs, but we’ve got our best team on it. We also outsourced some of the work on the lower case stuff to our division in Hyderabad.

Well keep me informed.

Will do boss!

Isn’t the whole idea behind a font, that you can re-use it? I’ll bet you can find a lot of stuff that uses Times New Roman and Courrier, too.

Ok I challenge you to find two more multi million dollar products where the main brand name uses the same font.

Urgh, for some reason the fact that the Playstation 3 uses the Spider Man font rubs me up the wrong way. It comes across as too self-aware, too eager to appear cool. Also, I just plain don’t like the font.

I imagine the problem is that they used a font for the Spider-Man logo, instead of having a specially designed logo. Then they realised that the public never got to see the Y, which was thought especially cool. What a waste! :frowning: Luckily, “PlayStation” has a Y. Happy Day!

I noticed this as well… Didnt really bother me that much. I suppose that was one guys job for a year… Trying out different fonts for Playstation 3. Seems wierd when you break down how much work goes into something so simple as how to write Playstation 3, and the best Font to use. Somebody probably lost a lot of sleep over it, for something that most will never notice.

me, I would never have thought that a font on a poster for something would ever bug me, but I have to say that from day one I have always, and I see no reason for me to change my opinion anytime soon, hated, DOWNRIGHT DETESTED the font that was used to write KING KONG on the recent movie. it just hit me in the face evrytime I looked at it, this sharp brushed steel font that sat so out of place with the organic nature of the movie. I couldnt help but hate it, so maybe, on some subliminal level, the font used makes a big difference and as such Sony were wise to settle on a font that was familiar and well recieved, ie the Spider-man font, hereby named the spiderfont.

Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer?

I guessed that it’s based around the tall thin font styles of the era, rather than anything runic originating from Skull Island.

I don’t think it’s the same. Netscape’s font is narrower and the t’s have rounded bottoms.

Plus those browsers are free, and not multi-million dollar products.

Well, if the Spider man movies are popular, it only makes sense to resuse the same font. It’s familiar. If you loved the movie, and are a gamer and see the new PS3 with that font, you’re subconscious will say, “I like that”. And walla, you buy it. Clever eh?

I think you mean “Voila!”
