Spilled Liquid Detergent!

Does anyone have any advice on how to clean up liquid laundry detergent off a cement basement floor? As I write this, I realize
perhaps the only solution is to use my own dirty clothes to sop it up and then wash…

Any other suggestions?
Thanks,

You might try to dump catlitter (or similar dry, absorbent material) onto it, let it absorb into the catlitter, then sweep up. Wash down any remaining residue.

Although I also like your solution just fine, depending on the amount. Don’t get too much detergent into one load with that method, though.

I had the same thing happen to me last month, and I used what I would like to consider the ingenious lazy mans (IMHO). I run a dehumidifier in my basement often, I usually have the drain hose position near my floor drain. I moved the humidifier (the most physical aspect of the lazy man method) so the drain hose emptied at the “head waters of the detergent stream”. The constant trickle washed down the majority of the stream into the drain. My floor drain is now spring fresh.

In keeping with my lazy man roots, I haven’t done sh*t to the stuff that didn’t wash down yet.

This happened but it fell BEHIND my washer so I couldn’t get to it for awhile. When I finally did, it had dried somewhat so I used a paint scraper to get it up.

You might try using a scraper or something similar to corrall as much of the liquid as possible into a dustpan or something, so you can just throw it out. Then you can “mop up” the rest as you described. You may want to use an extra rinse cycle to help get out the soap if you end up getting too much in each load.
