Spilled soda on phone...

I have a phone (not mine) that had a soda spilled on it, everything still works properly except for the microphone (presumably) as everyone keeps telling her that she sounds muffled when she calls them.
Any thoughts on this? My gut says to take the battery out and dip the microphone end in rubbing alcohol and then let it dry for a few hours.
Any other thoughts?

Won’t rubbing alcohol destroy any glues or resins present in the phone?

I was once told to clean my keyboard using lukewarm water and a mild detergent.

Taking out the battery is a must. I would pull off the battery while the phone is actually on, to drain as much residual power out as possible. Before replacing the battery, you should plan to dry it out for 48 hours in front of a heat vent or other source of moving air.

You don’t say which exact phone so it’s hard to give specific advice. You can also activate a warranty with some carriers, but it must be in place for x days prior to a claim and for x days afterwards; check your carrier’s specific fine print.

Everything in soda is water-soluble so I would just use hot water. Even mild detergents can leave behind residue.

Different sodas contain different things like acid, so the problem may be more than just a “dirty” phone that you can “clean”. The microphone may already have permanent damage. There are also moisture sensors in some devices that permanently alter after contact with liquid, so your warranty may already be void with no recourse.
