Has anyone read *Portugese Irregular Verbs * by Alexander McCall Smith? If so, could you help me understand the final story, “Death in Venice,” with the geiger counter and the Polish woman speaking in French. What’s that all about?

Oh yes. Mum gave me this last Christmas. Hmm. I might have to go and read that story again though - IIRC it was a riff on the Thomas Mann Death in Venice (as you’d kinda expect from the title) but I don’t recall the specifics. I’ll go take a look in the morning.
