I just bought a new sport coat that I intend to wear on a trip tomorrow. As such, I don’t have time to have it tailored. Luckily, the fit is great. However…
I need to remove the stitching from the pockets, which is easy enough. My question has to do with the back pleat. Photos are here:
Back pleat at the bottom (then string is hanging out)
This pleat came with a thin “X” of string at the bottom, closing it to the coat. Is it supposed to just stay open? Or does a Tailor adjust somehow?
Those aren’t pleats. They’re called vents. It’s not a very clear photo but it looks like the string the tailor used to tie it shut. You should be able to gently pull it out. The vent is meant to remain untied, but it shouldn’t pull open when you wear the jacket. If it does it’s because the jacket is too small for you.
Make sure you gently cut the label off the sleeve before you go out in public!
