Another vote for “live.” My favorite sports are baseball and hockey, but I hardly ever watch them on TV unless my team is in the World Series/Stanley Cup or something. I love going to games, though.
I don’t care much for basketball, football, racing, or soccer, but if someone I knew were into those sports I’d be quite happy to go to games with them. I’ll go to just about any live sporting event, actually – though I imagine that football would be the hardest for me to sit through more than a few times. I just don’t get that game.
What stadiums are you all going to that don’t show replays on the jumbotron?
Hell, you can’t watch a single football game on tv without hearing the crowd moan in unison after a bad call followed by the announcers saying “the crowd is reacting to the replay.”
The jumbotron also shows live action, so that if you’re on the far end of the field, you can watch the screen and have it be no worse than being at home watching on tv.
I think it really depends on the sport. Basketball and hockey are really better in person. Baseball and football are kind of a wash. One sport that’s really a LOT better on television is golf. In person you can’t really see much, it’s hard to follow a particular golfer’s round and you don’t get to see all the important shots. On television you see everything.
