Who would be considered for the top three “worst” professional athletes in history?
This is an impossible question to answer, simply because EVERYONE who makes it to the NFL, everyone who makes it to the NBA, everyone who makes it to the NHL, or the ___ (fill in any well-known pro sports league) was damn good! Good enough, at least, to make it to the highest level, a level that loads of excellent athletes dreamed of making.
To put it simply, the last benchwarmer for the L.A. Clippers is one superb athlete. The 48th man on the Cleveland Browns’ roster is a great athlete.
So, while people may name a .125-hitting major league utility infielder as the worst professional athlete on Earth, I give the guy a lot more credit than that, just for reaching the bigs.
Every minor leaguer is a professional, after all, so there are THOUSANDS of worse professional athletes than ANY big leaguer.

This question is entirely subjective. It seems like IMHO fodder.
And when you say in history, you can go back pretty far and there were a lot of marginal professional baseball players in the 19th century and there are professional soccer players in small countries who would have trouble making U.S. high school squads, as witnessed by Guam giving up over 30 goals in a match to Australia.
Eric “the Eel” Moussambani of Olympic 100m swimming fame might take some beating though I guess technically he isn’t a professional. None-the-less I found his story inspiring!

Samoa lost 31-0 to Australia, who also beat Tonga 22-0. Given that Samoa’s population is about one-fortieth of Sydney’s, though, I don’t think it’s too surprising.
