When you are on that theme you would need to look at Jack Brabham who won three Formula One Drivers Championships ('59, '60 and '66) and with his eponymous racing team won four Driver’s Championships ('66 Brabham, '67 Hulme, '81 & '83 Pique) and two Constructors Championships.
Yes I think there are a few designer/engineer/drivers of that era that would be in with a good shout. Perhaps even Colin Chapman? weakest driver so far mentioned but perhaps the visionary engineer.
Ooo, I might change my answer to Bruce. Good call. He dominated Can-Am in his own cars with Hulme until Porsche showed up.
Also a good thought…I think I’m gonna stick with Bruce though.
A swimming relay with 4 Michael Phelps would be tough.
As would a 4x100 relay with 4 Usain Boltseses
I think I disagree: the problem is that playing center and guard in basketball doesn’t just require different skills (though posting up is a totally different skill than jump shooting), it’s that center and guard require different physical attributes.
There’s no physical reason Pele couldn’t have been a good goalkeeper, and I suspect with just a little practice he could have been at least a mediocre one.
But there is no amount of training and practice that would let Kyrie Irving effectively defend a seven footer in the paint (and vice versa for the seven footer defending the guard on the perimeter). Now LeBron and Durant are freaks of nature who are quick enough to kinda defend guards and tall enough to kinda defend centers, so there’s a chance, but their clones are at a fundamental defensive disadvantage against a team with true guards and true centers, in a way that the Pele clones aren’t.
As the saying goes, you can’t coach height. That is why I’d take a team of KD clones, or Kareem clones – as mentioned upthread, Kareem’s sky hook is unstoppable.
I say we practice against SIX! Larry Birds!
