Weird memory: I saw her in a cigarette commercial during the first broadcast of ***TOS ***“This Side of Paradise” on 2 March 1967, just before Kirk gets inundated with the spores on the bridge of the Enterprise.
Why this should have stuck so indelibly in my mind, I don’t know.
“You can take Salem out of the country, BUT—you can’t take the country out of Salem!”
Very similar, but the one I saw definitely had Lori in it. (There’s absolutely no mistaking her!) The brunette in this one looks more like Sabrina “Miramanee” Scharf.
The series was created by Gene Roddenberry, so he remembered them when casting them for Star Trek. Wikipedia lists Walter Koenig, Leonard Nimoy, Ricardo Montalban, Nichelle Nichols, and Majel Barrett, whom he later married, as among the guest stars.
The star of the show was Gary Lockwood, who played LCDR Gary Mitchell in the second ***TOS ***pilot. As an aside, his CO in The Lieutenant was Robert Vaughn, aka “Napoleon Solo” in The Man from UNCLE.
Nichelle got an “And Introducing” in the credits for her episode.
I just saw Salome Jens/female shapeshifter in an episode of Melrose Place (I know, I know). She plays a character’s (Billy’s) mother. I only recognized her voice!
I’m watching the 1947 movie “The Beginning or the End” The Beginning or the End - Wikipedia which stars a Robert Walker - he’s not quite a Star Trek star, but he looks an awful lot like his son - Robert Walker, Jr., everyone’s favorite “Charlie X.”
As a related question, which Trek actors (among the main characters) are more well known for roles other than their Trek role? Off the top of my head my guesses are Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap, NCIS New Orleans), Levar Burton (Roots), and Kate Mulgrew (Orange is the New Black). Any others you all can think of, or would any of the three I mention be up for dispute?
Hmm, the first role I think of for Rene Auberjonois is Father Mulcahy in the movie version of MASH*, and he was also a regular on Benson. Diana Muldaur did one season as a regular on NextGen; I tend to remember her from a lot of different roles (including TOS), but the one that stands out is her season, and interesting demise, on L.A. Law. And Wil Wheaton has almost carved out more of a reputation living down Wesley Crusher than he did as Wesley Crusher.
Ethan Phillips (Neelix) was also on Benson. Before Voyager, Kate Mulgrew was famous for that flop detective show Mrs. Columbo, aka Kate Loves A Mystery, aka Kate the Detective.
