I recently saw a guy SPRAYING asphalt sealer onto a driveway. Before this, I always thought this gooey black sealer had to be applied with a brush or roller.
Although his results were astounding–the driveway looked perfect afterward (no streaks or lines)–something makes me think this E-Z method won’t give lasting results.
Wouldn’t a pressurized system require that the asphalt sealant be diluted–and won’t a diluted sealer compromise its effectiveness?
When it’s sprayed on it’s either hot or suspended in solvent. The solvent variety thickens as the solvent evaporates. Myself, I like the spread on stuff, as it seems to soak in much better. And pisses off the neighbors to no end. Professionals have trucks with heated tanks which can be used to spray hot asphaltum on the pavement, which re-melts and re-bonds the aggregate together mechanically, it’s the best method but not something the average homeowner can do.
