Squid Game: Korean series on Netflix (Spoilers)

The families of the dead only get a death benefit if a majority agrees to end the game. Which barely happened this time around, and almost everyone returned to the game. So they seem pretty confident that the game will only end with a winner, not with the families getting a disbursement.

Plus of course, they may have been lying.

Yeah, I figure the “everyone goes home” thing is a rare occurrence. It’s not something that happens every game. Also, there was a brief line where the head guy said to keep an eye on the people that didn’t come back.

I don’t think 001 would have allowed that. He didn’t care about people, but he really cared about the rules.

001, who lost the marble game but didn’t get shot in the head? He’s the one who cast the deciding vote to end the game when it was 100-100. Then he convinced 456 to go back into it.

I just watched again - 187 out of 201 returned to the game. I’m guessing they know that even if a majority vote to quit, they’ll all flip and return later.

As I said earlier in this thread, TV series that revolve around a weird, elaborate mystery/conspiracy usually start off pretty intriguing but have a dumb ending, so that is what I expected going into it.

To me, the only viable area to go now is among the “Staff” of the games. They appear to be forced labor rather than straight up employees. That could make for an interesting season as someone ends up working for the games and we follow them through the course of the competition. Maybe there’s conspiracies and intrigue amongst the staff similar to the organ harvesting doctor. maybe someone’s trying to escape “employment” or someone gathering evidence with the hope of blackmailing the game runners. Maybe someone realizes that they have a relative in the game and tries to covertly help them…

Presumably you’d be confessing to several murders if you came forward about your involvement in the games.

Seems to me that that’s the most plausible explanation for how the cop’s brother became the Front Man - he wasn’t willing to accept the prize, so he took a job with them instead.

I assumed it was a Ken Jennings kind of thing. He did so well at the game, they invited him back to host.

There are a zillion ways the brother could become the front man. That’s not distractingly implausible. What is puzzling is how he became the front man but also apparently vanished without a trace or a message to his family from a run-down apartment with a squid game letter in it just recently.

Didn’t they say something like he disappears like this every year?
And it’s not implausible that he’s decided he doesn’t want to do anything with the money, but lives only for the game. And he could be a recruiter as well, indicating why he’s got the game business card in his apartment.

I don’t remember anything to that effect.

Sure. But assuming he actually lives for the game, actually wants it to succeed (for whatever twisted reason), and also that he loves his family (as he seems to), why not just email them “hey, gonna be out of town for a few weeks, back in August”, and make sure to pay a few months of rent in advance (I think his landlady said he hadn’t paid rent? might be forgetting)? The entire cop storyline was only kicked off because a beloved family member suddenly and mysteriously vanished with no trace, which just makes no sense at all for someone who is the head man other than to-fool-the-audience.
