Squid Game - Season 2

I have yet to watch, but am glad all 7 episodes dropped at once.

I would suggest boxed spoilers for a week.

Anyone else looking forward to this? I didn’t think season 1 really felt like it needed a continuation, but I also really enjoyed it and would not mind more.

Note: If you have not seen Alice in Borderland, it’s an excellent similarly scripted show from Japan. Also on Netflix last I checked.

Thoughts on season 2 of Squid Game?

Starting this today. The early reviews seem very positive!

Yeah, I’m surprised at the positive reviews. I’ll still hold off a bit on watching it.

Just watched the first episode. Very impressed!

Thanks for this! I had no idea it was out yet. Really surprised Netflix didn’t suggest it earlier this evening since I watched Season 1.

I’ve seen 2 episodes have to say, the tiny twist at the end of season 2 was genuinely surprising. Nothing huge, but I definitely did not see it coming.

Pretty good, but not great, so far.

Do you mean Season One or episode two?

We watched the first couple of episodes. They were OK, but there was a part of me saying “hurry up and get to the good part”.

I’ve seen about 5 episodes now, and I think it’s living up to the quality of the first season. They did find a new take on the concept that I think was worth exploring.

Most of the plot twists I’ve seen coming, but they did fake me out with one right at the start:

I really though the loanshark/gangster guy he’d hired to find the recruiter was just scamming him so he could walk away with the money. But it turns out he really did believe him about the Games, and was honestly trying to help him for three years.

One theme I particularly like, in light of the recent US election is how frustrating it is watch people vote for an Obviously Stupid Option. Particularly with the vote to have a third round of games. The one player who owes 10 billion won, who is obviously biased to continue, because he’s still screwed financially unless he can get down to no more than four players, tells people, “Hey, let’s keep playing, that’s the only way we’re going to get more money!”, and no one calls him out of the elephant in the room: They’d only get more money if more of them die, and a lot more will have to die to make the increase significant.

Episode 2. My bad!

I’ve seen 3 episodes and am watching the 4th and I have a spoiler question.

Player 001 is the Front Man. Was he in the Red Light, Green Light game? If not, was there a different 001 player or did they just not have one until he showed up?

Spoiler: It ends on a cliffhanger! Apparently there is a final season three to come, but still annoying!

But once again, I come up against the fundamental problem in Squid Game: Normal narrative convention would have most of our Plucky Heroes surviving. Not so much in Squid Games. I keep thinking, “Nah, they won’t kill X!”, and then X dies.

Since I liked Alice in Borderland thought I would give Squid Game a try. Watched season 1 eps 1 & 2. For various reasons I prefer AiB (mostly due to more liable characters) , but will likely continue.
I’m not the first to question how the Korean health care system works and how likely 456’s mom could not get diabetes care (possible she fell through cracks? my limited research says possible)

More spoiler: Given how few characters there are left, I wonder if season 3 will be a complete season. It’s hard to see how they could fill another 7 or 8 episodes.

Was there any explanation hinted at as to why Thanos kept his cross, when everybody else’s personal effects were removed?

I was kind of lukewarm on Alice in Borderland, but I liked The 8 Show (8 episodes, also on Netflix).

No. But Granny also kept her bun-pick/dirk, and I noticed gold chains and other necklaces on several players, so I guess they just weren’t all that careful/particular.

And yet, they found his tooth. Having said that, he was a very suspicious entry, having been in the games before.

I have two more episode to go, probably watching tonight.

Of those who have had some character focus, who’s still alive? I forget most of the names, I just can’t get Korean names to stick.
