"Survivor" Season 29 Starts Sept 24, 2014

Meet the Cast.

Another Blood v Water, with some celebrities. I liked the last one, so I’m hoping this one is good, too.

Wow. 29 Seasons!

And an all new cast, which is good. And no Redemption Island, which is good as well!

I’ve pretty much thrown in the towel on Survivor. Started watching when season 6 aired, and watched religiously for a few seasons after that, then my interest started to wane. Just the same old shit over and over again—nothing new under the Sun. I’ll wait for the reviews here before deciding whether or not to give it a shot.

Did you do that last season? It had great reviews.

No, but I still have the entire season on my hard drive. I’ll watch it eventually. It was the only season I kept when I did a recent disk purge. The only reason I didn’t delete it was because it got favorable Café Society commentary.

“All new cast” is excellent.

I have always felt that any “returning players” are just a horrible drag on the pace of the action.

It is just my opinion, however, I feel very strongly that the producers should never allow anyone who has played the game once to return.

The reason is that what people do behind the scenes is a very important component to their game.

If they appear to behave one way in public, but then, in private, they behave in a very different way, it’s just no good to reveal that to the other players. I think it’s very important to keep that secret.

Any player who is well known has an extremely serious disadvantage.

It seems to me that is not always the case. But I believe it is the case far more often than not.

I’d also like to say that if two people are related, it should be up to them whether or not they reveal their relationship to the other players. If they want to try and keep it secret, they should be permitted to do that.

IMO, if they fail to keep it a secret, it will add some entertainment to the season. In any case, having other players attempt to guess which players are related and how they are related is a very interesting and entertaining aspect of the game and the audience should be entitled to try to guess along if they want to.

Not just play style–the last Blood vs. Water season, they pitted the veterans vs. the new players, and the new players took it in the shorts for the first half dozen challenges because they weren’t up to speed on how to camp.

The cast includes the Twinnies from the Amazing Race. Ugh…

I would say just the opposite. Returning players do extremely well. Several have won (not counting seasons where everyone was returning) and many others have made the final three. Boston Rob, Parvati, Tyson Apostol, and John Cochrane all won.

Boston Rob was maybe the most well known of all players and he blew away the field in his return season.

Also Sondra, who won twice.

I didn’t count her since her second win was against all returning players.

Starts tonight! Not too sure about the twists that have been announced but will wait and see on the details.

I’ll watch, of course, but I have a bet with myself when I’ll get disgusted with the whole group and delete it from the Tivo Season Pass list. The Over/Under currently stands at Kelley/Baylor getting voted off. Although Rocker could make me delete the first episode.

Wait, what? How can it be season 29, the show’s only been on the air for like 15 years.

Two seasons a year, just like Minnesota.

If there is a “run an obstacle course then solve a puzzle” challenge in this episode, I am done.

Well that’s it, then. Creatively bankrupt.

Eh, I agree the challenges have gotten kinda uncreative the last few seasons, but I like the mix of physical and mental. Although the design of that puzzle seemed mostly luck (you couldn’t really see all the pieces and the puzzle at once and think about what fit where).

Not surprised one of the Twinnies was the first out. Even if they weren’t annoying people (which Nadiya somewhat did with her ‘gay guy = girl’ comments) the mere fact they had been on Amazing Race twice was gonna put a target on their backs. If John Rocker stayed silent (which he did) it wasn’t looking good for them.

Interesting that Josh voted for Baylor, who was the one coming to him and say “I’ll vote however you do.”

I interpreted that as Josh bailing out of voting on that particular TC completely rather than be the swing vote that sent someone home. He knew Baylor wasn’t even being talked about as a possibility, so voting for her was safe and wouldn’t send her home. And he didn’t want to be the vote that actually counted in sending one of the two active candidates home.

I have a feeling this is going to bode badly for Josh’s actual spine during this season. If you bail on the very first vote, when and where do you find the pivot point to actually make a significant move?
