Squirrel in the attic

After reading this thread I thought it might be appropriate to ask. The squirrel is in our attic. It’s only one and he’s driving us and the kitties nuts. We are going to fix his point of entry soon but how do we make sure the evil little bugger is out of there first? I personally wouldn’t feel bad at all about sealing him in (cask of amontillado anyone?) but the Mrs has a kind heart and mentions the smell.

2 cats in the house, 1 16 month old, and me and the wife. No access to the attic from the house. I’ll take all the help I can get.

Thanks in advance.

Anybody?

My WAG, Nail a board over the opening. If you hear scratching, it’s still in there.

A less drastic approach may be to tape over the hole with masking tape and try to divine when the little hairy-tailed rat leaves for work and when he comes home. Seal the hole based on this information.

Of course an exterminator will be able to handle this as well…

Mainly – use traps, check for a nest, and don’t use poison or guns, seems to be the advice.
