I 've just discovered a bit of an archaic urban legend that seems to go back hundreds of years.
Comte St. Germain.
Various accounts have this man living in different times, From the 1700’s to as recently as the late 1970’s. Kinda the Dick Clark of his day [rimshot]
He is apparently or thought to be royalty or a superb con artist. The article was really vague, and naturally, I am intrigued.
I have never heard of this and now my mind is whirling. I’ve been trying to remember to look this up for the better part of three weeks but [cue steve miller] time keeps on slipping [/steve miller]and naturally, the article I read it in has disappeared.
Anybody got the goods on him, and hey, nobody better jump out shouting, " I am Spartacus" If you know what I mean.
The best place to go looking for St Germain the immortal (as opposed to the actual historical figure) are the series of novels written by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro. Yarbro has based over a dozen books on St Germain being a 5000 year old vampire. The first one was Hotel Transylvania which was set in mid-18th century France, the period when St Germain actually lived.
And for the Historical figure check here:
In the book “Extraordinary Popular Delusions” Vol. 3 - by Charles Mackay, one of the best skeptics of the 19th century:

In essence, a con artist and charlatan. Maybe he had a good knack with diamonds.
Mmm, not even creating a hyperlink works. so try this:
