St. John's Wort

Works well, I started taking it and just felt normal. The only way I notice it is that when I don’t take it, I tend to have more trouble not being scatterbrained, and I tend to have be a bit moody. I don’t feel doped up on it, I just feel ok. I take 3 capsules a day of the .3 hypericin stuff, and as long as the pills are standardized, I do ok. Exercise doesn’t hurt either, I have found. The exercise seems to mellow me out when I am stressed.
Buy a bottle of some main brand in a healthfood store or GNC and get one that is standardized. Should run you about 15 bucks for 20 days worth. It is a worthy experiment, and cheap.

Oh, and BTW- Most everything is a chemical, unless it is an element. (aint I a :wally)

First of all, if you’re taking ANY other medication, you should check with your doctor before taking St. John’s wort. It has been found to interfere with numerous medications, including (but not limited to) anti-AIDS drugs, anti-rejection drugs for people with transplants, birth control pills, etc.

Furthermore, here is a Dr. Dean Edell web article on a recent study of St. John’s wort for serious depression. The short version is that it didn’t work: http://www.healthcentral.com/drdean/deanfulltexttopics.cfm?id=34076

I like St. John’s Wort. It keeps my moods more regulated - far fewer and less intense mood swings. Find a company that does standardize its herbals, and stick with the same brand, as varying brands could be almost the same as taking different medications, as the standards can be so different. Of course, discuss with your doctor and/or pharmacist for any possible interactions with current medications.
