St. Louis fans you are not God's gift to baseball

The sport the South Africans almost beat the Canadians at back in March. (That was one of the best games of the WBC.)

Proof that Cardinal fans aren’t as bad as Phillies fans: we never threw batteries at J.D. Drew, and we had a lot more reason to than they did.

Well I’ve certainly learned something today. My question was tongue-in-cheek, but I didn’t know we even had a baseball team, what with all the emphasis on soccer, cricket and that other game played with a ball that bounces funny.

I wouldn’t expect a lot from them: you had a couple of high schoolers pitching for you. And you got mercy ruled 17-0 in 5 innings against the United States.

Actually, Jim’s a little off the mark; baseball is actually cricket with a needleful of sense shot into it.

Er…what’s that other game played with a ball that bounces funny? And BTW do you call it soccer over there?

In a sense you’re right. If there was one [a god] though, we would be.

I’m perplexed by your continued insistence that several million people are “cunts” based on the experiences of one person. But I will concede the point that you have every right to come into this thread and agree with the OP. Just as I have every right to come into the same thread and say you’re being ridiculous. You may not have a fixation, but the attitude itself is idiotic.

It’s the virulence of your statements and the miles-wide brush you paint with that makes it disturbing. Also, the willingness to dismiss and entire city of people. It’s ludicrous and childish.

Childish indeed. Sad, really.

What is wrong with you people? When I say I’ve had scads of experiences relevant to the matter, you or dooku come back with “you’ve only had [1].” When I say that every so often, some cunt reminds me about Cardinals fans, you cry “Why are you calling us all cunts!” If you’ve got a reasonable point to make, there’s no need to go misrepresenting what I’ve said to make it.

Okay, for the cognitively sluggish: I’ve never suggested that all Cardinals fans are cunts, or even boors. I’ve pointed out that I lived in St. Louis for 17 years, a weath of experience upon which to draw, and I can attest to the fact that St. Louis fans are neither God’s gift to baseball, nor are they particularly kind or good natured, nor are they especially knowledgeable.

I have alluded to the nature of the breadth of experiences I had across the board there. If you find these incidents acceptable, you will not understand my feelings about St. Louis, nor about its sports fans, no matter how many times you suggest that I am childish for having them or for expressing them.

I love me some Lion’s Choice, though. Now that’s one good thing about St. Louis.

The Gulls folded? No way- they were the best ticket in town when I lived in SD (near UTC)! I saw them play the team formerly known as the Russian Red Army- great game, and the first live hockey game my mom ever went to! She loved it too.

The Gulls rocked- besides, who else would have let Lonnie Loach play so long past his prime?

Cardinals fans, no. St. Louisans, yes. In this very thread, as a matter of fact.

Your own words. Hardly misrepresentation. Not some St. Louisans, not St. Louisans who are Cardinals fans. Just St. Louisans, period.

So yes, you called me a cunt. You called Dooku a cunt. You called my friends cunts. You called my family cunts.

Surely you can see how this would be upsetting.

I don’t recall saying your experiences were acceptable. In fact, I clearly remember saying I was sorry you had them. But Dooku made an excellent point, which bears repeating.

Even he said you had experiences, not just one. We’re being quite reasonable, here.

But I see Dooku has quit trying to talk sense into you, and I will, too. Actually, you’re doing the city a favor with your attitude. The less you’re in the city, the richer the city is for it.

Hey, it was only one battery…maybe a few spark plugs. And we also booed Santa, threw snowballs at Jimmy Johnson*, and killed Jesus. At least according to ESPN.
*The first snowball reportedly thrown by future Mayor and Pennsylvania Governor, Ed Rendell.

Jesus. I wonder what would happen if two people on the internet happened to express a strong dislike for St. Louis.

The Missouri River Otters did…

And they just folded in the UHL this summer.

Misrepresenting, eh? You didn’t answer my earlier question. Let me repeat it:

Sounds like you’re doing a fine job in the misrepresenting department.

Oh, and while we’re here:

To take that further - if you have this lifetime of incidents, is the “Kendall sucks” one really the best you can do? It must be, since you seem compelled to keep bringing it up as your #1 example.

Yeah. That’s the problem here - that you dislike St. Louis. Not that you’re writing off an entire fan base - ANY fan base - due to a small collection of----you know, why do I bother typing this again?

Forget it, Pixiesnix. Let’s just consider him a stupid disingenuous fucking idiot and move on.

Likewise, I’m not sure it’s worth it to persist, but just for shits and grins: My experiences represent a limited sample, because I am one person, and I am completely open to the possibility that I somehow have a little black raincloud following me around in regards to my interactions with St. Louisans. However, I’m not drawing my own conclusions about my experiences from one event, or two events, but from having lived and grown up in St. Louis. It really shouldn’t be that very difficult to comprehend the difference between my experiences being limited relative to the universe of people x St. Louis interactions, while I have a large number of referents to form my own conclusion.

To analogize for the dimwitted: A man might say that it never rains because in 56 years of living, he has seen rain only on 5 occasions. However, he reflects a limited sample because there are many, many people in the world who have a range of different numbers of “rain days.” Got it yet, slick?

Jesus H. How many different sports incidents have I mentioned, yet you keep claiming this is all I have? I’ve got a bunch: my oft repeated brothers’ experiences, school yard fights, arguments, the years of whining about Don Denkenger, the whining about Keith Hernandez “having” to share the MVP award with Willie Stargell, the “you dumb as a box of rocks” woman, the time when the fans booed Terry Bradshaw because he came back into a game after leaving with an injury earlier in the game… I could go on, but it seems like you would keep claiming that the Kendall sucks guy is it, or if I mention him again, you’d claim I was fixated on him.

You’re really just being intentionally obtuse, at this point, aren’t you?

Yes, my problem is that I dislike St. Louis. Why this should send you into hyperdefensive conniptions I have no idea - except that you’re from St. Louis, land of the hyperdefensive conniption. (Do you know that people there are often surprised that I don’t really think that Budweiser and Busch beers are all that good?)

I can guarantee you that there exist more people out there who really hate St. Louis. I know this must be overwhelmingly stressful to you. Perhaps you should just go lie down.

AAAARGH!!!

NO, goddammit, it’s that you’re condemning all fans based on your limited experiences with a few, colorerd by your bad experience living here!! It. Has. Nothing. To. Do. With. St. Louis. I didn’t like living there much either, which is why I left in 1988. AGAIN: THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

Once more: I don’t give a flying fuck if it’s Cards fans, Pirates fans, Raiders fans, Man. U fans, Bearcats fans, whatever - you’re ignorant for making such a sweeping generalization!

FUCK!!!

Yep. I lived in UC, off of Governor right by the 805, BTW.

The place was rockin’ every night until the WCHL got eaten up by the ECHL and the Gulls weren’t dominant anymore. After that (2001, 2002ish) the crowds steadily dwindled and the team couldn’t stay profitable anymore. Then the NHL team they were associated with (Colorado, I think) dumped them for the (NHL team) owner’s nephew’s minor league team. Within a few months the team was done.

It’s really sad, there was a lot of great history. The first black man to ever play in the NHL, Willie O’Ree, had an illustrious career with the Gulls and currently lives within 10 miles of San Diego, for example.

We could talk about happier things…did I mention today’s my birthday? :shameless self-promotion:
