I was setting up my fantasy team this just now, and noticed the Cards-Cubs game was listed as postponed. I checked weather.com to see what the forecast was in St. Louis. When it showed 78 and sunny for the rest of the day, I became a little baffled.
I was going to post a thread here asking why this game had been postponed, but something told me to check a news site first.
Word on the street and KMOX is that he also had a wreck in Suagett IL early (5:30am) Thursday morning…Cards played a 12:10 game that day and he was late to the stadium after 20 frantic calls from his team mates… :dubious:
For those of you that don’t know, the only thing in Saugett Illinois are Bars, Strip Clubs and some large industrial complexes…thats it…The ONLY reason anyone goes there is to party into the way early hours…
Sadly it sounds like Josh was kinda outta control…
And they found marijuana and a pipe in his car. It wasn’t an iffy DUI, either, his blood alcohol level was almost twice the state limit. I feel bad for his family- this just had to come out on the day of his funeral.
I knew Josh. I used to work for the AA Trenton Thunder controlling the video screen out in right field. He used to come up to the production booth and hang out with us all the time. He was a very nice guy, and this is a shame. I always worried that he’d drive drunk. Thank God he didn’t kill anyone else. He was quite a drinker…we used to call him “Josh Handcoke”. He always wanted us to play “Sweet Home Alabama” for him if he was put in the game, which is interesting because he’s from Mississippi. Oh well. Here’s to you, Josh.
So Josh’s dad has filed some lawsuits. One, against the restaurant where Josh was served. Okay, maybe the bartenders/management should’ve known better. this kind of lawsuit seems par for the course whenever someone dies in a DD accident where the deceased had been at a bar or restaurant drinking.
But the tow truck driver, whose truck Josh Hancock hit, as well as the driver of the car that was being helped by the tow truck driver, are also listed as defendants in the lawsuit.
Come on. Your son was an alcoholic, he got behind the wheel while severely intoxicated-- most likely not for the first time that night-- he was talking on his cell phone, there was pot in his vehicle, and-- shocking!-- he hit another vehicle. Frankly, he’s lucky he didn’t kill anyone else besides himself.
At least in theory, the fact that Josh Hancock fucked up doesn’t mean nobody else did anything wrong. But given all the things you mentioned, I doubt his father’s claims will get much sympathy.
