A lucky streak during a trip to Las Vegas gave me an opportunity to come into contact with a fairly large quantity of $100 bills. I noticed that a pretty large percentage of them (maybe a quarter) had small, mysterious stamps on them. Most were images, but some were numbers and letters (some of which appeared to be Hebrew or Arabic). I’ve never noticed anything like them on other denominations of bills. I’ve scanned a few typical examples, the pic is here. Does anyone have any idea where these stamps are from and what they mean?
Interesting. I have never seen anything like that and I have worked in a bank. My guess is that these bills came to Vegas from outside the US, as that’s where a lot of tourists to Vegas come from. Most Big Bens circulate outside of the US, maybe more than 90% of them. These marks could be stamped on bills by foriegn banks or money changers, perhaps indicate that they had been verified as authintic. Pure speculation on my part, I hope someone comes along with the facts.
