Only somewhat related to the OP, but there was an episode of Magnum P.I.(Lest We Forget) where:

In an intriguing piece of casting, both June Lockhart and Jose Ferrer play characters in the present day, and their actor offspring - June’s daughter Anne Lockhart, and Jose’s son Miguel Ferrer - play the same characters in 1941.

They did the same thing in “Straight Outta Compton” this last year, with O’Shea Jackson Jr. playing his dad (Ice Cube).

Actually, there are plenty of cases of getting actors back to reprise roles, or appear in cameos. But my referencing the “Murder She Wrote” episode was MORE than this – they actually used the old movie footage in the episode. I don’t think most cases of reprising roles (like the Ed Asner case or thiese Klingon cases) qualify on that score.

Sorry for the late reply - but they did (IIRC) have footage from the original show of the younger Asner - I believe they showed it as B&W clips.

Something else just occurred to me: I believe in the original Stephen King short story, the Wil Wheaton character, as an adult, runs into Ace, the character played by Keifer Sutherland. Maybe film a brief scene between them for a really cool and updated finale!

With, perhaps, a picture of John Cusack somewhere in the scene.

It’s been a good while since I’ve seen the movie but in the book Sutherland’s character walks right on by “Wheaton” without a hint of recognition, so that would probably be dull.

“O’Connell” and “Feldman” (and an additional teen or two) are both killed in the same car accident just out of high school, so no help there.

“Cusack” died before the story began (he was seen in flashback in the film).

Not in the movie, though – in the movie they survived. And even in the book they weren’t killed at the same time – Teddy was killed in a car accident, Vern died in a house fire.
