Standard size for driver's licenses?

Is there a federally mandated size for state driver’s licenses? I would think so, but I’m not sure. Also, the same for passports. Will a passport from Russia be the same size and shape as a passport from the US?

Andrew

Why would the federal government care about driver license sizes? AFAIK, each state is free to make its licenses whatever size they want. However, most seem to have adopted the standard credit card size, for sake of convenience. I don’t know if there is an international regulatory agency for passport sizes and layouts, but most I have seen seem to conform to some conventinal standard.

I bet that most states have the same vendor for the equipment that produces the license so it would seem probable that they are the same size.

The Feds would leave DLs alone as that’s a state issue.

If anyone’s going to get in a snit about the size, it would be wallet makers.

I’d say that I, as a wallet USER, would be far more ticked off than the makers would be. Though there are many things that are just slightly out of standard, and piss me off regularly (library cards, pictures, etc)
