I know they are franchise owners so it will vary by location, but I’m thinking of having them in for approximately 1500 sf of carpet cleaning.
Are they going to drive up the price with add on services?
Any experiences good or bad appreciated.

from a single experience at my parents house.
they will vigorously sell add-ons before the job, when they arrive, while they are doing the job up until they leave out the door.
they likely will do a just good enough job, i.e. you know it was cleaned but you would like it done better.
they were real polite. seemed to be careful about not creating damage or making a mess. they leave signs everywhere not to walk on carpet until dry. lightning fast.
I kind of figured that might be the case. I wonder if Aggies List or Home Advisor would be good sources of data. They claim to be.
Yes, Angie’s List is a good source of data. You can read reviews from people in your area who have used your local Stanley Steamer.
My folks use them every couple of years to have their carpet cleaned. I’ve never heard a complaint from them about the service or being up-sold. In fact I think sometimes my dad manages to get discounts by tipping the workers in cash. I’ve implored them to check out other providers by using my Angie’s List account but they’re not interested.
So at least the franchise that serves Northern Summit County in Ohio is fine
I used them a few times to clean carpeting (sometimes wall-to-wall) in rental townhouses that I was moving out of: I like their website estimate interface, I never felt up-selling pressure (they might have mentioned an extra or two but a simple “no thanks” always did the trick), and they always did a good job. I didn’t do any comparison shopping, but the price never seemed exorbitant.
TLDR: I recommend them/would use them again.
Took too long to preheat the boiler before you could start driving. I’d get one of those new-fangled Model T Fords instead.
I agree. Internal combustion all the way!
Please don’t tell me that they call themselves the “Cleveland Steamers”.
Most carpets require professional cleaning every two years to keep warranties valid.
Slight hijack: I grew up in Summit County. Weird little thrill to encounter the name on the SDMB!
